CMS Singapore’s formal law alliance, CMS Holborn Asia, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ying Yi Liew as a director in the Banking & Finance group and to lead the Financial Services Regulatory practice. Ying Yi joins the firm from Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow.

Ying Yi specialises in advising financial institutions, fintech companies, funds and regulated entities on regulatory and compliance matters, as well as applying for/securing licenses, approvals, notifications, and exemptions with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Ying Yi is also experienced in advising clients on developing their compliance frameworks and policies, providing guidance on customer-facing documentation, third-party contractual agreements, blockchain and cryptocurrency regulations, ongoing compliance with conduct-of-business requirements, and regulatory issues related to misconduct and investigations.

A recognised leader in her field, Ying Yi is ranked by Chambers Fintech as Band 2 for Fintech Legal in Singapore, by Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner for Fintech and Financial Services Regulatory: Local Firms, and by Chambers Asia Pacific as Up and Coming for Banking & Finance: Regulatory in Singapore. She has also been recognised as a Singapore Rising Star by Asian Legal Business in 2024.

Caryn Miller, CMS Partner and Joint Managing Director for Asia and the Middle East, said: “Ying Yi has an excellent market profile, both in Singapore and internationally, and her appointment will further strengthen our market leading finance offering. Singapore continues to be strategically important for CMS and Ying Yi’s hire demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the growth of CMS Holborn Asia and investing across the APAC region.”

Daniel Tan, Head of Finance at CMS Holborn Asia, comments: “We are delighted to welcome Ying Yi to the Banking & Finance practice. Our Asia Pacific practice is experiencing significant growth and Ying Yi is another fantastic appointment. Her proven track record advising financial institutions will complement our existing practice, further bolstering the service we can deliver for clients.”

Ying Yi adds: “I’m excited to take up this role and to join a firm with such an excellent network and reputation for both scale and breadth of expertise. I look forward to working with Daniel and the rest of the team, both in Singapore and internationally.”

The Singapore Banking & Finance team is part of the firm’s international network of over 500 banking and finance lawyers. Ying Yi’s appointment follows the recent hire of asset finance specialist San San Peh, who joined the Banking & Finance practice as a Senior Consultant in January 2025.

The firm provides clients with a full-service offering across the Asia Pacific region, combining local and international expertise across banking, finance, regulatory and capital markets law.
