12 February 2021

CMS and its formal law alliance in Singapore, CMS Holborn Asia, are pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Tan as a director, leading the Singapore office’s banking and finance practice. Daniel is both UK and Singapore qualified and joins from Clifford Chance, where he was responsible for leading its Singapore law finance practice.

Daniel has more than 15 years of experience advising on a wide range of financing transactions, including general syndicated lending, acquisition and leveraged finance, trade finance, project finance, and capital markets transactions (both debt and equity). Daniel’s breadth of experience is attractive to both borrower- and sponsor-side clients who are able to benefit from Daniel’s broad experience and expertise on a range of financing work in Singapore and regionally.

Daniel’s appointment further strengthens the firm’s regional finance offering including the firm’s existing Hong Kong finance practice.

Toby Grainger, Managing Partner at CMS in Singapore, comments: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Daniel to CMS. His skill set is a significant and important addition to our practice and something we had been eager to bring to many of our clients who had been looking to us for this capability.  It will also add to our technology, construction, energy and infrastructure practices which are key areas for us in Singapore as well as the wider region, particularly within Southeast Asia where stimulus packages and fund deployments are resulting in continued infrastructure growth.”

Caryn Miller, Joint Managing Director of Asia & the Middle East, adds: “Daniel’s arrival is part of the firm’s continued investment and growth plan in the Asia Pacific region. His experience, further strengthens the firm’s capabilities in this key area, particularly as debt remains a critical component for businesses in the region to achieve their growth aspirations. On this basis, we expect our new finance offering in Singapore to benefit both our local and global clients.”

Daniel Tan says: “I am delighted to join CMS Holborn Asia and to be part of a firm with such a strong global reputation. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop my practice and to establish a new finance team in Singapore, which can support clients on a broad range of finance-related products. I look forward to working with my colleagues both in Asia and across the firm’s global offices.”

CMS’s latest hire closely follows Babita Ambekar’s appointment in November 2020 to the corporate group in Singapore. Including both Daniel and Babita, the firm has 11 partners based in Singapore. For more details on the recent expansion, please refer to Notes to Editor below.
